Welcome to my home page! Below are a few "short" paragraphs about me and my current résumé (also available in pdf format). BioA bit about me... My name is David Montero. I was born in a city called Melun just outside Paris, France, in 1978. I lived in that city with my parents, who are both from Spain, and three brothers until I was 12 years old. That's when my parents decided to move to the south of France to a small town called Aigues Vives (450 inhabitants at the time!). My brothers stayed behind as they were already all working (I'm the last of four brothers).I went to middle school in Capendu ("Collège de l'Alaric") and to high school in Carcassonne ("Lycée Jules Fil"). That's where I started to enjoy studying English and foreign languages in general (besides taking English and Spanish classes, I also studied Occitan, a Romance language spoken throughout Southern France). During the summers, I used to pick apples in the neighboring orchards. (Apples and wine grapes are the main agricutural productions of the region). Carcassonne itself is famous for its medieval fortified city. Definitely worth visiting if you're in the area. After high school I attended college in Montpellier at the Université Paul Valéry. There I received a "DEUG" in British and American studies (a two-year degree). The following year I studied abroad for my "Licence": I went to the University of Birmingham in the UK. I enjoyed my study-abroad exprience so much that after a year spent preparing to become an English teacher back in France, I decided to study abroad again, in the US this time. I received a scholarship to study at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. It was a great experience and I was able to do research there for my Maîtrise degree (I looked at US diplomacy toward Indonesia during the Cold War). That year my school's exchange program with the University of Washington in Seattle was needing a student, so I had the privilege of receiving a second scholarship to go study in Seattle. I really enjoyed living in "the rainy city" (which, by the way, is not so rainy) and after a few years spent as a "Visiting Graduate Student" and teaching French at UW, I started an MA in linguistics. My research was on the perception of lexical stress among speakers of French, Spanish and English (see Linguistics section of the site). In the fall of 2007, I started teaching Spanish at the Northwest School. It's been a great place to work and the students are fun to teach. RésuméEducation
